What Can You Expect?
We recognize that everyone has a different scope of work, style, budget, vision, and timeline. And working with a designer might seem intimidating. That’s why we encourage you to read our design process below to feel more at ease.
1. Initial Call
This is our initial introduction to start the conversation about your project and get to know each other. It will usually be done over the phone and likely last roughly 20 minutes. If you decide to move forward, we’ll send you a more detailed questionnaire and schedule an in person consultation at that point.
2. Consultation
For the consultation, we will meet at your home with all family members that will be involved in the design and financial decision making for the project. At this time, we will get a feel of your space, discuss the scope of the project in detail, and go over the questionnaire (and don’t worry if you didn’t fill it out, we can go over it together). We will also discuss your style preferences, timelines, and budget. In order to formulate and execute a design plan that suits your and your family’s needs, we will also talk about your lifestyle habits as well as short- and long-term goals for your home. Any and all visual references and/or examples of things you like or don’t like are welcome at this point.
Within a few days after the consultation, we will send you a follow-up email with a rough estimate of the project costs and design fees. Once we refine any additional details and you feel comfortable with the proposed scope, we will send you the agreement outlining the details of work that will be performed. The design phase begins once we agree on the details and you accept and sign the contract.
3. design phase
This is where the fun part begins! However, this is also where your homework ends. By now, you have provided us with all the inspirations and ideas that you want to be considered for your project. It might be tempting to keep researching; however, this will only create confusion and potentially extend timelines.
We start working on the conceptual design based on our consultation. The timeline for this step depends on the complexity and size of the project as well as workforce and research that it will require; this will all be discussed during our consultation meeting.
In this phase, we will prepare:
Inspirational images to reflect what the design will look like
Mood boards and color schemes
Samples of materials, finishes, textures, fabrics, etc.
Sketches
Floor plans
3D renderings/plans (if needed)
Rough sourcing of furniture, art, lighting, and accessories (this is a very time consuming process and will be done more precisely once main/key pieces are selected and approved)
… and anything else that’s needed to share the design concept with you!
4. presentation/concept meeting
We meet again at your home for about 2 hours where we’ll present and have an in-depth discussion about the conceptual designs. We will do a walk through the spaces selected for the work, going over the presentation in detail and getting your feedback.
This is a very important stage and you will need to be totally honest during this presentation to make sure we are moving in the direction of the home of your dreams. This is a partnership and we’ll need your candid opinion, as you’ll have up to two rounds of revisions for plans, furnishings, and fixtures options.
After making notes for the final revisions, we will start creating a list of furnishings and fixtures that will need to be approved for purchasing.
If contractors/sub-contractors or specific vendors (e.g., window treatments, refinishers, etc.) will be involved, a separate walk-through meeting will scheduled with them to get a proper estimate for their work.
5. finalization and purchasing meeting
Once all final revisions have been made, we begin the specifications stage. This usually takes several weeks to complete, and might require several meetings. We will put together a final product selection of all the items that will be purchased for this stage of your project. Purchase orders will be prepared and invoices will be sent to you for approval. Once your payment is received, we will lock in all the orders and set up deliveries.
Delivery, storage, inspection, and installation options will be discussed at this point and will vary for each project.
6. Installation and project management
This is where your story unfolds!
We will be coming to your home to place everything, schedule installers to hang artwork, mirrors, window treatments, lighting, and any other accessories. Since we are not on a HGTV show, things won’t get done over a commercial break, this phase can take several days or even weeks — depending on the project size and complexity — we graciously ask for your patience and flexibility.
Once everything is installed, we will do a thorough walk through and inspection and we might bring in a few extra accessories, such as candles, vases, flowers, or books from some of the local shops around town. We’ll schedule one last meeting with you to place these finishing touches and take photos of your beautiful new space for our portfolio.
For remodeling and construction projects, we will work closely with all contractors and sub-contractors to ensure that the design plan is executed correctly and in a timely manner.
7. enjoy
Now it’s time to enjoy your home with your loved ones!
